A downloadable game

I’m in the course “game design 6 - experimental game design”, at Uppsala university right now as a part of the program. We are now a group of three people that have 2 weeks to make a game with different restrictions. When one is done the next one comes.
We all have other studies as well and are not working on weekends so this is not anything we are working on 24/7. It is very interesting and we have now been working on a game we call - The Sexual Revolution

Restrictions:
Around 2 weeks (we have to make a presentation on the last day)

Has to be in Bitsy - that itself gives some constraints: ● Browser-based ● Tile-based pixel editor ● 0% programming ● 100% storytelling ● ”1 person” tool

Everyone in the group shall make one game in bitsy and the different parts shall have a connection to the other/s.

Has to be about one of the presented topics from the lecture (all being about the future and connected to an important subject) -we choose: The sexual revolution of 2061

In representation: kindness in storytelling ● Acknowledge discrimination that exists in real life & avoid stereotypes about minority groups ● Do research on respectful storytelling & imagery before jumping into design ● Focus on what your characters love & care about ● Focus on what is endearing or unique about them

We first took and discussed what the revolution was and how we wanted our games to connect. We took the time to discuss what things look like today and the change we would like to see in the future. We started talking about different views and from that we decided to have the games connect through the same events but from different character’s perspectives and then let the characters meet in the end.

What we did:
We all talked about the characters and how they would be connected and how their personalities and views differed. We took time and worked alone to write down the characters, who they were, their background, their attitude, and thoughts around the upcoming events.

The game shall be about one young activist, caring and fighting for consent-laws, the LGBT-community, and education.
One man that thinks about masculinity and what that means, as well as why people hate on things that to him is a given, such as actual rights.
The third person, is a man who is “a hater”. A self-absorbed homophobe/transphobe, disliking the changes being made but changes his ways after falling in love with a transwoman.

I thought through different approaches and come up with that
1. where was this all happening? Shal we have some constraints, a specific area or country?
2. we need information on the culture and laws in that part. How does it look like today and from that what changes could be made in this imaginary world?
3. we needed a timeline. What happened when?
4. what started it?
5. We have to make sure not to dive into deep due to the time limit.

Now we are done, I have gathered information, looked into laws and different discriminations, designed a timeline of events, learned and created a story in Bitsy. We have in the group been in contact every day/every second day and helped each other with different complications that have come up along the way.
